Wesele by Stanisław Wyspiański, as a special challenge for a translator on the example of Henryk Bereska’s translation

Praca dyplomowa pt.: „Wesele Stanisława Wyspiańskiego, jako szczególne wyzwanie dla tłumacza, na przykładzie tłumaczenia Henryka Bereski” poświęcona jest przekładowi dramatu pt.: „Wesele” na język niemiecki oraz towarzyszącym temu problemom, na które napotyka tłumacz podczas przekładu tekstu wyjściowego. Ze względu na wiele powiązań z kulturą, historią czy tez sztuką, dramat ten jest niezmiernie trudny w odbiorze, a praca tłumacza w przypadku tego dramatu niebezpieczna. Tłumacz, który podejmuje się przekładu dramatu, jakim jest „Wesele” Wyspiańskiego, musi z ogromną precyzją dobierać technikę tłumaczenia, jak i ekwiwalenty polskich znaczeń. Jednym z tłumaczy, który podjął się tego zadania był wybitny tłumacz literatury polskiej Henryk Bereska. Ze względu na polskie pochodzenie, znajomość polskiej kultury, historii i obyczajów jak i doskonałą znajomość języka niemieckiego, Bereska doskonale poradził sobie z tłumaczeniem polskiego dramatu. W pracy dyplomowej ukazane zostały wybrane fragmenty oryginału, które stanowią ciekawy przykład w sposobie tłumaczenia, jaki obrał dany tłumacz. Zestawione zostały ze sobą dla porównania, sposoby tłumaczenia poszczególnych fragmentów przez Karla Dedeciusa i Henryka Bereskę. Na podstawie takiego zestawienia przekładu dwóch tłumaczy można dostrzec różnice w sposobie przekazania czytelnikowi danej informacji, bądź też jej opisu. Oprócz części praktycznej praca zawiera również część teoretyczną poświęconą zarówno teorii, aspektom tłumaczeń, jak i kreatywności i ideom, które są niezbędne w procesie przekładu tekstu wyjściowego. Teoria ta jest pomocna nie tylko dla tłumacza, ale również dla odbiorcy.Powyższa praca dyplomowa ukazuje, iż Henryk Bereska, oferując czytelnikowi odzwierciedlenie w języku niemieckim dramatu „Wesele” Wyspiańskiego , spełnił swą rolę jako tłumacz.

Thesis entitled “Wesele by Stanisław Wyspiański, as a special challenge for a translator on the example of Henryk Bereska’s translation” is dedicated to German translation of “Wesele” drama as well as problems faced by a translator while translating the original text. Due to many links to culture, history or art, the drama is difficult at reception and the translator’s task in this case is even dangerous. A translator who engages in translation of “Wesele” drama by Wyspiański has to choose very precisely the translation technique and the equivalents of Polish meanings. One of the translators who got involved in this task was a distinguished translator of Polish literature Henryk Bereska. Due to Polish origin, knowledge of Polish culture, history and customs as well as excellent knowledge of German, Bereska has managed to succeed in translation of the Polish drama.The thesis presents chosen excerpts from the original which constitute an interesting example of the translation technique that has been chosen by the translator. In the thesis there have also been compared translation techniques used in particular extracts by Karl Dedecius and Henryk Bereska. On the basis of the comparison of the translations by two different specialists one can notice differences in the way of communicating particular information or description to a reader. Apart from the practical part the thesis includes also theoretical part dedicated to theory, translation aspects, creativity and ideas which are indispensable to the process of original text translation. The theory is helpful not only to a translator but also to a reader. The above thesis demonstrates that by offering a reader a German translation of “Wesele” drama by Wyspiański, Henryk Bereska has fulfilled his role as a translator.

Die Diplomarbeit mit dem Titel: „ Wesele von Stanisław Wyspiański als eine besondere Herausforderung für den Übersetzer, am Beispiel der Übersetzung von Henryk Bereska” ist der Übersetzung des Dramas „Wesele” gewidmet. Das Drama „Wesele” ist besonders schwer zu verstehen, weil es viele Beziehungen mit dem Kultur, mit der Geschichte oder mit der Kunst hat. Die Rolle des Übersetzers ist hier sehr schwer und gefährlich. Der Übersetzer muss mit der großen Präzision sowohl die bestimmten Techniken der Übersetzung als auch die Äquivalente der polnischen Wörter wählen. Henryk Bereska ist ein Übersetzer, der sich entschieden hat, das Drama „Wesele” zu übersetzen. Da Bereska ein Pole von Herkunft war, und die polnische Kultur, die Geschichte und die polnischen Sitten gut kennt, ist er mit der Übersetzung sehr gut zurechtgekommen. In dieser Diplomarbeit sind die bestimmten Ausschnitte gewählt und analysiert. Sie zeigen welche Techniken der Übersetzung Bereska wählte. Zum Vergleich ist auch die Übersetzung des Dramas „Wesele” von Karl Dedecius dargestellt. Aufgrund der Gegenüberstellung kann man beobachten, wie die beiden Übersetzer die gleiche Informationen übertragen haben. Die Diplomarbeit hat auch den theoretischen Teil. Diese Kapitel enthalten die Theorie über Aspekte der Übersetzung, Kreativität oder Ideen, die dem Übersetzer unentbehrlich sind. Die Diplomarbeit zeigt, dass Henryk Bereska den deutschen Rezipienten die Versinnbildlichung des polnischen Dramas „Wesele” angeboten hat.
