The construction of a female image in Korean society on the basis of an anthology of contemporary Korean novels "Barwy miłości"

Życie kobiet oraz ich rola społeczna od niepamiętnych czasów były inspiracją dla twórców tekstów kultury na całym świecie. Jednak różne narodowości i grupy etniczne odmiennie przedstawiają postaci kobiet we własnej literaturze i sztuce, odnosząc się do sobie właściwych kontekstów kulturowych i społecznych. Przykład zawężonej w ten sposób interpretacji obrazu kobiety znaleźć można w antologii współczesnych opowiadań koreańskich pod tytułem Barwy miłości – pierwszego dzieła koreańskiej literatury pięknej, które pojawiło się na polskim rynku wydawniczym. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie, czy ukazane w wybranej pozycji literackiej informacje dotyczące życia Koreanek, mogą być dla polskiego czytelnika rzetelnym źródłem wiedzy na temat sytuacji kobiet w Korei. Konstrukcja obrazu kobiety na łamach Barw miłości przeanalizowana została po aspektem wierności oddania faktycznych realiów życia Koreanek.W pracy przybliżono zarys literatury koreańskiej XX wieku i w jej kontekście umieszczono poddaną analizie antologię. Ukazane zostało również tło społeczno-kulturowe pozycji kobiet w Korei, przedstawiające czynniki filozoficzno-religijne oraz historyczne, które rzutują na współczesne postrzeganie Koreanek. W oparciu o te informacje, dokonano analizy obrazu kobiety przestawionego w antologii Barwy miłości, w tym wizerunku Koreanek jako matek, córek i sióstr. Zaprezentowano również rolę, jaką odgrywają one w ujęciu szeroko pojętego życia społecznego. Analizując losy damskich postaci ukazanych w wybranych opowiadaniach, przywołano obraz kobiety przez pryzmat relacji miłosnych i intymnych oraz obraz Koreanek doświadczających wykluczenia społecznego ze względu na podjęcie pracy w zakresie usług seksualnych i powiązanych z nią realiach biedy. Przywołane problemy i trudności życia codziennego bohaterek, zostały porównane z materiałami źródłowymi, w celu skonfrontowania fikcji literackiej z informacjami faktycznymi.

Women's lives and their social roles have been an inspiration for authors of cultural works worldwide since ancient times. However, different nationalities and ethnic groups present female figures differently in their own literature and art, referring to their respective cultural and social contexts. An example of this narrower interpretation of the image of a woman can be found in the anthology of contemporary Korean novels entitled Barwy miłości - the first work of Korean fiction to appear on the Polish publishing market. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the information on the life of Korean women presented in the selected publication can be a reliable source of knowledge for the Polish reader about the women’s situation in Korea. The construction of the image of a woman in Barwy miłości has been analyzed in terms of faithfulness to the reality of Korean women’s lives.The work presents an outline of 20th-century Korean literature, and the analyzed anthology is included in its context. It also shows the socio-cultural background of the women’s position in Korea, presenting philosophical, religious and historical factors that affect the contemporary perception of Korean women. Based on this information, the image of a woman presented in the anthology Barwy miłości was analyzed, including the image of Korean women as mothers, daughters and sisters. Their role in broadly understood social life is also presented. Analyzing the fate of female characters presented in selected stories, the image of a woman was recalled in the light of love and intimate relationships as well as the image of Korean women experiencing social exclusion due to taking up employment in the field of sexual services and the related realities of poverty. The above-mentioned problems and difficulties of the heroines' everyday lives were compared with source materials in order to confront literary fiction with factual information.
