Praca poświęcona jest tłumaczeniu wulgaryzmów w serialu "Wiedźmin", skupiając się na przejściu z języka angielskiego na polski. W szczególności skupia się na funkcjach wulgaryzmów w pierwszym sezonie "Wiedźmina", analizując zawiłości tłumaczenia wulgaryzmów z angielskiego na polski i dążąc do zrozumienia wyzwań i sukcesów związanych z utrzymaniem wierności językowej, znaczenia kulturowego i zamierzonego wpływu emocjonalnego. Głównym celem pracy jest ukazanie różnic w tłumaczeniu wulgaryzmów z języka angielskiego na polski w napisach i dubbingu. Skupia się na metodach tłumaczenia stosowanych w tych formatach audiowizualnych i bada, w jaki sposób czynniki kontekstowe wpływają na tłumaczenie, poziom agresji przekazywanej przez wulgaryzmy oraz ich użycie w "Wiedźminie". The thesis examines the translation of vulgarisms in the TV series "The Witcher", focusing on the transition from English to Polish. It specifically focuses on the functions of vulgarisms in the first season of "The Witcher", analysing the complexities of translating vulgarisms from English to Polish and aiming to understand the challenges and successes in maintaining linguistic fidelity, cultural relevance, and the intended emotional impact. The central aim of the thesis is to demonstrate the differences in translating vulgarisms from English to Polish in subtitles and dubbing. It focuses on the translation methods used in these audiovisual formats and explores how contextual factors influence the translation, the level of aggression conveyed by the vulgarisms, and their usage in "The Witcher". Furthermore, the goal is to examine the distinct approaches in subtitle and dubbing translations, and analyse how frequently used vulgarisms throughout the first season, such as "fuck" and "shit", are handled differently. The structure of the thesis consists of several chapters. The first chapter delves into the theoretical aspects of vulgarisms, including the definition and understanding. It also addresses the topic of the functions and themes of vulgarisms. The second chapter explores translation, it’s definition, methods and types. It also explores concepts related to audiovisual translation, such as subtitles and dubbing, and ultimately addresses the topic of translating vulgarisms. The concluding chapter serves as the practical section, offering an analysis of particular vulgarisms identified in the series. It includes a detailed examination of their translation and an exploration of the methods used for translating vulgar language in 'The Witcher' series. The thesis aims to explore the challenges faced by translators through the identification, classification, and analysis of vulgarisms in both the original English and their Polish counterparts in subtitles and dubbing.
