Translation of film and book titles

Tematyką pracy licencjackiej są tłumaczenia tytułów filmów i książek. W pierwszej części pracy przedstawiane są istotne terminy związane z przedmiotem tłumaczenia. Kolejna część pracy skupia się na praktyce tłumaczenia tytułów. Celem przedstawionej pracy jest więc znalezienie związku między omówionymi wcześniej strategiami tłumaczeń tytułów, a tym jak są one przekładane w praktyce.

The topic of this Bachelor Thesis is translation of film and book titles. At first the definition of translation has been presented, and some other relevant terms related to the topic have been discussed. In this part we also distinguish different types of translation, describe the study of translating and interpreting as well as deal with the problems that may occur in the process of translation. Since the translation is understood as a practical task, the second part focuses on practice. The conducted analysis helps understand that these strategies are connected with practice. It turns out that as a rule the translator uses translation strategies when s/he translates film or book titles.

Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Thema der Film- und Buchtitelübersetzungen. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit werden die Definition und Gegenstand der Übersetzung dargestellt. Im weiteren Teil werden zunächst der Terminus des Titels und Übersetzungsstrategien von Titeln skizziert. Der analytische Teil konzentriert sich auf die Frage, wie man die Titel in der Praxis überträgt. Das Ziel der dargestellten Arbeit ist also einen Zusammenhang zwischen Strategien und Praxis zu finden.
