Powrót do Domu na Południu w Ostrych Przedmiotach autorstwa Gillian Flynn

Moja teza zgłębia motyw powrotu do domu na południe Stanów Zjednoczonych, zobrazowany w powieści Ostre Przedmioty autorstwa Gillian Flynn. W mojej analizie skupiam się na głównej bohaterce – Camille Preaker, oraz różnych aspektach powrotu do rodzinnej miejscowości. Na początku zwracam uwagę na jej duchową wędrówkę w przeszłość i kontrast pomiędzy nią oraz stereotypem „Southern Belle”. W kolejnej części mojej analizy omawiam fenomen małomiasteczkowej mentalności który pojawia się w powieści, oraz jej kontrast w nastawieniu do świata u osoby z dużego miasta. Następnie omawiam różnicę pomiędzy powitaniem przez mieszkańców nowej osoby a kogoś kto niegdyś sam mieszkał w małym mieście na południu. Ostatni podrozdział mojej pracy poświęcam powrotowi do miasta po wizycie w rodzinnej miejscowości oraz jaki wpływ miało to na główną bohaterkę. W mojej tezie chciałabym pokazać wyżej wymienione motywy obecne w powieści oraz jaką rolę pełnią one w życiu Camille.

The thesis looks at the motif of coming back home to the South of the US, portrayed in the novel Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. In my analysis, I focus on the main character - Camille Preaker and different aspects of her comeback to her hometown. Firstly, the spiritual journey she takes into her past and the contrast between her and the stereotype of ‘the Southern Belle’. In the next part of my analysis, I discuss the phenomenon of a small town mentality which appears in the novel and the contrast with the mindset of a visitor from a big city. Lastly, I focus on the difference between welcoming a newcomer and someone who used to live in a small, southern town. I devoted the last subchapter of my thesis to discussing the journey back to the city after a visit home and what impact it have on the main character. In my thesis, I would like to show the motifs present in the novel I mentioned above, and the role they play in Camille’s life.
