Niniejsza praca ma na celu przybliżenie tematu masakry nankińskiej, a przede wszystkim traktującej o niej książki Iris Chang "The Rape of Nanking", wraz z otaczającymi ją kontrowersjami. Omówiona jest pokrótce historia wojny japońsko-chińskiej oraz przebieg masakry nankińskiej. Następnie przybliżona zostaje postać Chang i jej książka, a na końcu krytyka, z którą autorka zmierzyła się po jej publikacji.Poddane analizie zostają kontrowersje wywołane przez "The Rape of Nanking" oraz zbadany zostaje wpływ, jaki publikacja Chang wywarła na świat i społeczeństwo nie tylko Zachodu, ale także Japonii i Chin.

The aim of this thesis is to outline the topic of the Nanjing Massacre, focusing on Iris Chang's book "The Rape of Nanking" and the controversies surrounding it. It features a brief description of the Second Sino-Japanese war and its genesis, as well as a description of the Nanjing Massacre. A short insight into the life of Iris Chang and the making of her book is followed by an analysis of the criticism she faced after its publication.The controversies sparked by the book are also analysed, as well as the impact it had on the world and public opinion - not only in the West, but also in Japan and China.
