Leave everything and move to the Bieszczady. The image of Polańczyk as perceived by sanatorium patients: a semantic-semiotic analysis

Przedmiotem pracy licencjackiej jest multimodalna analiza obrazu miejscowości Polańczyk oczami kuracjuszy sanatoryjnych. Celem rozprawy jest rekonstrukcja semantyczno-semiotyczna obrazu Polańczyka w oczach kuracjuszy. Praca niniejsza ma konstrukcję chronologiczno-problemową, a więc poszczególne części są ułożone tematycznie z jednoczesnym zachowaniem porządku chronologicznego. Rozprawa składa się z czterech części. W części pierwszej skupiam się na wprowadzeniu elementów koncepcji geografii humanistycznej (inaczej humanizmu geograficznego), który stanowi podwaliny teoretyczne mojej pracy. W kolejnych podrozdziałach nakreślam krótką historię Bieszczad, przedstawiam Polańczyk historycznie, wyobrażeniowo (mentalnie), turystycznie oraz wskazuję rolę polańczykowskich sanatoriów. Druga część zawiera omówienie metodologii badań, głównie koncepcji językowego obrazu świata (JOS) i w pomniejszym stopniu mitu/mityzacji, a także wizerunku miejsca. W trzeciej części dokonuję opisu grupy badawczej oraz przeprowadzam analizę zebranego materiału badawczego, która ukazuje obraz Polańczyka oczami kuracjuszy sanatoryjnych. Ostatnia część stanowi rozbudowane podsumowanie, w którym odpowiadam na cztery pytania: co wynikło z badań, czy znaleziono odpowiedzi na pytania badawcze i zrealizowano cel badawczy, jakie płyną wnioski praktyczne z badań, jakie są potencjalne obszary dalszej eksploracji naukowej?

The subject of this bachelor’s thesis is a multimodal analysis of the image of the town of Polańczyk through the eyes of sanatorium patients. The aim of the dissertation is a semantic and semiotic reconstruction of the image of Polańczyk as perceived by sanatorium visitors. This thesis follows a chronological and thematic structure, meaning that the individual parts are organized by topic while maintaining chronological order. The dissertation consists of four parts. In the first part, I introduce the concepts of humanistic geography (also known as geographic humanism), which form the theoretical foundation of my work. In the following subsections, I outline a brief history of the Bieszczady region, present Polańczyk from historical, imaginative (mental), and touristic perspectives, and highlight the role of the local sanatoriums. The second part covers the research methodology, focusing mainly on the concept of the linguistic worldview (LWV), and to a lesser extent on the ideas of myth/mythologization and the image of a place. In the third part, I describe the research group and analyze the collected research material, which reveals the image of Polańczyk through the eyes of sanatorium patients. The final part provides an extensive summary, in which I address four key questions: what emerged from the research, whether the research questions were answered and the research goal achieved, what practical conclusions can be drawn from the study, and what potential areas for further scientific exploration exist.
