Treści erotyczne w gatunku New Adult: Analiza tłumaczeń angielsko-polskich

New Adult to stosunkowo nowy gatunek literacki, który rzadko badany jest naukowo. Niniejszy projekt ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na praktykę tłumaczenia tego popularnego gatunku. Praca wypełnia lukę w badaniach nad przekładem, koncentrując się na tłumaczeniu scen erotycznych z języka angielskiego na polski. Książki objęte analizą to: „A Million Kisses in Your Lifetime" autorstwa Monici Murphy (2022) oraz tłumaczenie Agnieszki Nikczyńskiej-Wojciechowskiej (2023) pod tym samym tytułem, a także „Fourth Wing" Rebecci Yarros (2023), wraz z przekładem Sylwii Chojnackiej pod tytułem „Fourth Wing. Czwarte Skrzydło" (2023). Analiza porównawcza służy zbadaniu strategii stosowanych w tłumaczeniu tego rodzaju treści oraz wpływu wyborów tłumaczy na odbiór tekstów w kulturze docelowej. Polskie tłumaczki mają tendencję do łagodzenia wulgarności pojawiającej się w tekstach źródłowych, zwłaszcza w przypadkach, kiedy dotyczy ona postaci kobiecych, co wzmacnia stereotyp męskiej dominacji, popularny w tekstach erotycznych kultury docelowej. Strategią, która często pojawia się w przypadku obu tłumaczeń, jest strategia zmiany figur retorycznych, która służy tłumaczeniu metaforycznego języka występującego w oryginałach. Co więcej, próby dostosowania tekstu do polskiej składni i gramatyki wielokrotnie skutkują wprowadzeniem nieścisłości oraz zaburzeniem logiki, a także zmianą punktu widzenia, tonu i stylu oryginału.

New Adult Fiction is a relatively new genre of literature, therefore it has yet to be academically explored. This project aims to bring to light the practices used in the translation of this genre. The thesis addresses a gap in translation studies by focusing on the translation of erotic scenes from English to Polish. The books included in the work are: "A Million Kisses in Your Lifetime" by Monica Murphy (2022) and its translation under the same title by Agnieszka Nikczyńska-Wojciechowska (2023), and "Fourth Wing" written by Rebecca Yarros (2023), and the translation "Fourth Wing. Czwarte Skrzydło" completed by Sylwia Chojnacka (2023). Through comparative analysis, it examines the strategies translators use to manage explicit content and explores the impact of these choices on the reception of the text in the target culture. Polish translators tend to tone down the explicitness and vulgarity of the language of these scenes, especially in the case of the female characters, which reinforces the stereotype of male domination prevalent in the erotic writings of the target culture. The strategy that appears often is the trope change strategy, which is used to translate the metaphorical language of the original works. Moreover, the attempts to adapt the text to Polish syntax and grammar frequently result in the creation of confusion and illogicality or a shift in the original focus, tone, and style.
