Tłumaczenie terminologii medycznej w serialu Dr House

Celem niniejszej pracy jest ocena jakości tłumaczenia terminologii medycznej w oficjalnych i amatorskich napisach do dwóch wybranych odcinków serialu Dr House. Tłumaczenia te zostały zanalizowane pod kątem popełnionych błędów terminologicznych. Według wielu badaczy, niepoprawny przekład terminów medycznych na język docelowy może nie tylko utrudniać widzom przyjemność oglądania, ale również wprowadzać ich w błąd. Część teoretyczna niniejszej pracy poświęcona została roli terminologii medycznej w produkcjach fabularnych oraz charakterystyce tłumaczenia audiowizualnego jako metody przekładu. Z kolei w części praktycznej zaprezentowana została analiza porównawcza wybranych napisów wraz z krótkimi komentarzami na temat ich poprawności terminologicznej.

This paper’s main concern is the quality of medical terminology translations in official and amateur subtitles for two selected episodes of the hospital drama House M.D. The translations are analysed with regard to the terminological errors committed. According to a number of researchers, incorrect medical terms rendering into the target language may not only prevent the viewers, both the lay people and medical professionals, from enjoying the episode but also be misguiding. In the theoretical section of this paper, the role of medical terminology in the fiction series is discussed and main qualities of audiovisual translation are characterised. In turn, practical section includes contrastive analysis of the chosen subtitles and short comments on their terminological correctness.
