StreszczeniePraca magisterska zatytułowana „Terminologia medyczna w polskim przekładzie serialu Dr House” dotyczy poprawności tłumaczenia terminologii medycznej w napisach dialogowych pierwszego sezonu serialu Dr House. Celem pracy dyplomowej było sprawdzenie, czy terminy medyczne, których użyto w polskim tłumaczeniu są poprawnymi odpowiednikami terminów pojawiających się w oryginalnej angielskiej wersji serialu. W pracy zwrócono też uwagę na strategie zastosowane przy tłumaczeniu terminów medycznych, zasady związane z tłumaczeniem audiowizualnym i potrzeby widzów. Zebrano również informacje dotyczące teorii tłumaczenia medycznego i audiowizualnego. W pierwszym rozdziale pracy opisano cechy dobrego tłumacza medycznego, rolę tłumaczenia medycznego, etapy tłumaczenia medycznego, jakość tłumaczenia medycznego i problemy związane z błędami w tłumaczeniu medycznym. Z kolei, rozdział drugi dotyczy terminologii medycznej, terminów medycznych i kwestii związanych z ich tłumaczeniem. W trzecim rozdziale zdefiniowano pojęcie tłumaczenia audiowizualnego i opisano metody, z których korzysta się przekładając treść programów filmów, seriali itd. Informacje, które zostały zgromadzone w celu napisania tej pracy pochodzą z polskiej i angielskiej wersji napisów dialogowych pierwszego sezonu serialu Dr House. Dane zostały przeanalizowane pod względem poprawności tłumaczenia terminów medycznych i zgodności z zasadami tłumaczenia audiowizualnego. Analizując treść przekładu serialu z języka angielskiego na język polski okazuje się, że tłumaczenie terminów medycznych nie zawsze można wykonać precyzyjnie z uwagi na to, że tłumacz musi się również stosować do zasad tłumaczenia audiowizualnego. Podsumowując, polska wersja napisów pierwszego sezonu serialu Dr House może zostać uznana za dobrą, z tego powodu, że w polskim tłumaczeniu została zachowana równowaga pomiędzy zasadami tłumaczenia medycznego i audiowizualnego.

SummaryThe dissertation “Translation of medical terminology in the Polish version of the TV series House MD” concerns correctness of translation of medical terms in subtitles of the first season of the series House MD. The purpose of the thesis was to analyze whether medical terms in the Polish subtitles may be considered accurate in terms of medical translation and which strategies were applied by the translator. There were also rules of subtitling taken into account in the dissertation. Furthermore, theoretical background related to medical translation and audiovisual translation was researched. There are features of a medical translator, role of medical translation, stages of medical translation, translation strategies, quality of medical translation and issues related to committing errors in medical translation described in the first chapter of the thesis. The second chapter of the thesis is related to medical terminology, medical terms and issues associated with translating them. Besides, there is audiovisual translation defined in the third chapter. Also, methods used to translate screen products are enumerated and described as well as certain problems linked to audiovisual translation. Additionally, information, which was essential to write the practical part of the thesis, was gathered on the basis of English and Polish versions of subtitles of House MD. Afterwards, the data was analyzed in terms of correctness of the translation of the medical terms as well as adherence to rules of audiovisual translation. It turned out that in many cases it was not possible to follow strictly the rules of the medical translation, because adjusting terms slightly to the requirements of subtitling was necessary. To sum up, the Polish version of the translation of medical terms in House MD may be considered good, because there is a balance between conforming to requirements of audiovisual translation and medical translation in the Polish subtitles.
