Abstract in English
Yosef Lixṭenbom translated the poem "Pan Tadeusz" by Adam Mickiewicz into Hebrew. This paper investigates the ways in which Lixṭenbom copes with the names of “realia”. It turns out that his prevalent method was to use a more general term than the one appearing in the source. The effect is a somewhat vague style. The second dominant strategy is to find an approximate equivalent in the target culture. This leads to the effect of “domestication”.
