Spanish /s/-weakening in the speech of radio announcers from Guayaquil, Ecuador : pilot study

Artykuł przedstawia metodologię oraz wyniki badania pilotażowego dotyczącego osłabienia fonemu /s/ w mowie spikerów stacji radiowych w mieście Guayaquil w Ekwadorze. Guayaquil to największe miasto ekwadorskiego wybrzeża oraz najludniejsze miasto kraju. Używany przez jego mieszkańców wariant języka hiszpańskiego nie doczekał się niemal żadnych opracowań językoznawczych. Na potrzeby badania w styczniu i lutym 2017 roku utworzony został niewielki korpus, złożony łącznie z około 10 minut audycji o zróżnicowanym charakterze. Audycje podzielono na dwie grupy w zależności od stylu wypowiedzi spikerów - styl A, reprezentujący mowę niespontaniczną, oraz styl B, reprezentujący mowę spontaniczną. Badanie potwierdziło, że zmienna "styl" wpływa na wybór jednego z alofonów fonemu /s/. W artykule wyszczególniono również dodatkowe parametry, które zostaną uwzględnione w badaniu docelowym.

The paper presents methodology and results of a pilot study concerning /s/-weakening in the speech of radio announcers in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Guayaquil is the largest city of Ecuadorian coast and the biggest urban center of the country. The linguistic variety used by its inhabitants has not received much interest from Hispanic linguists. For the need of the current research, a small corpus of speech was created between January and February of 2017. The corpus is composed of approximately 10 minutes of auditions of different genres. The auditions were divided into two groups, depending on the speech style - style A, representing non-spontaneous speech, and style B, representing spontaneous speech. The study confirmed that the variable "style" influences the preference for one of three determined allophones of the /s/-phoneme. Moreover, the article points out additional parameters that will be included in the meta-study.
