War, trauma, society and the "giant lizard" - an attempt at a contextual analysis of the films Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001) and Godzilla Minus One (2020)

Niniejsza praca analizuje filmy Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001) i Godzilla Minus One (2020) pod względem występujących w nich motywów związanych z udziałem Japonii w II wojnie światowej.Pierwsza część składa się z przedstawienia kontekstu ideologicznego, doktryny kokutai i jej potencjalnego wpływu na działania podejmowane przez rząd japoński w pierwszej połowie XX wieku. Dodatkowo zawarte są informacje o realiach historycznych i wybranych wydarzeniach, w których brała udział Japonia.W drugiej części autor analizuje film Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001) w reżyserii Shūsuke Kaneko pod kątem występujących w nich motywów pamięci o wojnie i nawiązań do ofiar poległych w wyniku decyzji Japonii w konflikcie w Azji i na Pacyfiku (1941-1945).Trzecia część poświęcona jest analizie filmu Godzilla Minus One (2020) w reżyserii Takashi Yamazakiego. Przedstawione i przeanalizowane są również wątki antywojenne, które twórca próbuje przekazać widzom za pomocą wydarzeń i postaci obecnych w produkcji.

This work analyzes the films Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001) and Godzilla Minus One (2020) in terms of their themes related to Japan's involvement in World War II.The first part presents the ideological context, the kokutai doctrine, and its potential impact on the actions of the Japanese government in the first half of the 20th century. Additionally, it includes information on historical context and selected events in which Japan participated.In the second part, the author analyzes the film Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (2001), directed by Shūsuke Kaneko, in terms of their themes of war remembrance and references to the victims of Japan's actions in the conflict in Asia and the Pacific (1941-1945).The third part is devoted to an analysis of the film Godzilla Minus One (2020), directed by Takashi Yamazaki. It also presents and analyzes the anti-war themes the filmmaker attempts to convey to audiences through the events and characters in the film.
