Niniejszy artykuł stanowi omówienie względnie samodzielnych pieśni V i VI poematu Lotos (1894-1898) Jerzego Żuławskiego w świetle filozofii staroindyjskiej. Głównym zagadnieniem, które podejmuje utwór młodopolskiego poety, jest kwestia wolności duszy ludzkiej uwięzionej w klatce ciała - temat niezwykle istotny dla twórców końca XIX wieku. We wskazanych pieśniach przedstawione zostały dzieje doświadczającego cierpień pierwiastka duchowego, ukazane przez pryzmat wedyjskich i buddyjskich kategorii filozoficzno-kulturowych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem myśli upaniszadowej. Autorka artykułu zaznacza również wpływ filozofii Arthura Schopenhauera na zachodnioeuropejskie postrzeganie religii buddyjskiej, co znalazło swoje odzwierciedlenie również w poemacie Żuławskiego.

This article is a treatment of relatively independent V and VI liryc canzones of Lotus (1894-1898), the poem by Jerzy Żuławski, in the context of the old Indian philosophy. The main issue that is engaged in the work of the Young Poland poet is the question of freedom of the human soul, imprisoned in the cage of the body-this is a topic which is extremely important for the writers of the end of nineteenth century. In the indicated canzones there is the history of the spiritual element, which is experiencing suffering, shown through the prism of Vedic and Buddhist philosophical and cultural categories, with particular emphasis on the thought of Upanishads. The author of the article also points out the influence of Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy on the Western European perception of the Buddhist religion, which was also reflected in the poem of Żuławski.
