From Folklor of Villages to Famous Stages. The Development of the Art of Dance in Arab Countries.

Praca prezentuje rozwój różnych form tanecznych w krajach arabskich. Ma za cel wykazanie jakie czynniki historyczne, religijne, społeczne i kulturowe wpływały na taniec. Przedstawione zostały legendy, mity i stereotypy związane z tańcem i najpopularniejsze style folklorystyczne (saidi, fellahy, taniec nubijski, hagala, dabke, bambooti, tanoura, khaleegy, zaffa, fezzani, zaar). Omówiono wpływ Reda Troupe i Mahmuda Redy na popularyzację scenicznej wersji tych tańców. Uwzględniono uwarunkowania historyczne, religijne i kulturowe ich powstania. W pracy przedstawiony został też rozwój raqs sharqi w dwudziestym wieku oraz jaki wpływ miał na niego orientalizm, filmy z czasów Złotego Wieku Egipskiego Kina oraz taniec ludności migrującej ze wsi do miasta zwany beledi. Określono i opisano współczesne kierunki rozwoju tańca w krajach arabskich oraz tańców wzorowanych na arabskich na całym świecie.

The purpose of present thesis is to demonstrate the development of various styles of dance in Arab countries and which historical, religious, social and cultural factors have had the strongest influence on it. It consists of legends, myths and stereotypes associated with dance and presents the most popular styles of folkloric dances (Saidi, Fellahy, Nubian Dance, Dabke, Bambooti, Tanoura, Khaleegy, Fezzani and Zaar). It covers also Mahmud Reda and Reda Troupe’s impact on popularization of stage versions of those dances. Historical, religious and cultural background of their origin was took into consideration. The thesis presents also development of Raqs Sharqi dance in 20th century and what impact Orientalism, cinematography from the time of Golden Age of the Egyptian Cinema and beledi (dance of migrant’s from countryside to the cities population) had on it. It definites and describes nowaday’s dance trends in the Arab world as well as dance styles based on Arabic dances worldwide.
