Christmas decorations of a cottage near Krakow (on the material of manuscripts Folk customs near Krakow during Christmas, written on the cusp of 1903/1904)

Przedmiotem pracy pt. ,,Bożonarodzeniowe ozdoby podkrakowskiej chaty (na materiale rękopisów Zwyczaje ludowe pod Krakowem w czasie Świąt Bożego Narodzenia spisane na przełomie 1903/1904) jest analiza lingwistyczno-kulturowa ozdób bożonarodzeniowych, które znajdowały się w podkrakowskich chatach na początku XX wieku. Celem pracy była rekonstrukcja świątecznych zwyczajów, związanych z dekoracjami ludowymi na podstawie kulturowo-językowej analizy rękopisów. W pracy wykorzystano metodę lingwistyki kulturowej, która bada relację między językiem, a kulturą. Analiza etymologii nazw obyczajów, sposobu ich językowego ujęcia i bogatej wariantywności nazw ozdób, zestawione zostały z wartościowaniem tych obrzędów przez sam lud. W pracy szczególnie poddane zostały dwie kategorie ozdób: roślinnych i słomianych, których symbolika i korzenie są wspólne. Ludność wiejska dekoracjom świątecznym przypisała znaczenie płodnościowe, zaklinające urodzaj, chrześcijańskie, dotyczące kręgu natury.

The subject of the work entitled ,, Christmas decorations of a cottage near Krakow (on the material of manuscripts Folk customs near Krakow during Christmas, written at the turn of 1903/1904) is a linguistic and cultural analysis of Christmas decorations that were located in huts near Krakow at the beginning of the 20th century. The aim of the study was to reconstruct Christmas customs related to folk decorations on the basis of a cultural and linguistic analysis of manuscripts. The study uses the method of cultural linguistics, which examines the relationship between language and culture. The analysis of the etymology of the names of customs, the way they are expressed linguistically and the rich variability of the names of ornaments, were compared with the evaluation of these rites by the people themselves. Two categories of ornaments are particularly focused on the work: plant and straw ornaments, whose symbolism and roots are common. The rural population ascribed to the holiday decorations a fertility, fertility, Christian meaning related to the circle of nature.
