The impact of the Armenian-Turkish past on the lives of the characters in Elif Shafak's novel "The Bastard of Istanbul"

Niniejsza praca licencjacka przedstawia wpływ przeszłości ormiańsko-tureckiej na życie bohaterów w powieści Elif Shafak „Bękart ze Stambułu”. W pracy został przedstawiony kontekst historyczny relacji ormiańsko-tureckich z drugiej połowy XIX wieku i pierwszej połowy wieku XX. Rozdział historyczny nie ma na celu udowodnienia tezy. Został zawarty w pracy w celu ukazania różnych opinii badaczy dotyczących kwestii ormiańskiej, która jest jednym z głównych wątków powieści. W następnych rozdziałach opisani są ormiańscy oraz tureccy bohaterowie książki oraz ich wzajemne stosunki. This bachelor’s thesis concerns the topic of the impact of the Armenian-Turkish past on the lives of the characters in Elif Shafak's novel "The Bastard of Istanbul". The BA thesis presents the historical context of Armenian-Turkish relations from the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The historical chapter is not intended to prove a thesis. It was included in the thesis to show researchers' different opinions regarding the Armenian issue, which is one of the novel's main themes. In the following chapters, the Armenian and Turkish characters of the book and their mutual relations are described. In the following part of the bachelor's thesis, the way of portraying the Armenian issue in "The Bastard of Istanbul" is presented. The main point of the research is to prove the influence of the Armenian-Turkish past on the lives of the book's characters.
