Contemporary factors of socio-economic development of Przemyśl

Celem pracy było poznanie sytuacji społeczno-gospodarczej Przemyśla oraz zidentyfikowanie czynników, które wpływają na rozwój tego miasta, w tym jego potencjałów oraz barier rozwoju. Istotną część badań stanowiła analiza poszczególnych dziedzin społeczno-ekonomicznych, a także relacji miasta z jego otoczeniem. Integralną częścią pracy było przeprowadzenie badań sondażowych z mieszkańcami analizowanego miasta oraz ośrodków go otaczających. W wyniku dokonanych analiz można stwierdzić, że w Przemyślu przeważają czynniki, które hamują jego rozwój. Najważniejszymi barierami rozwoju miasta są zmiany demograficzne oraz niekorzystna sytuacja na rynku pracy. W opinii przemyślan, poważnym ograniczeniem w rozwoju Przemyśla są jego władze i podejmowane przez nią decyzje. Niepokojąca jest również opinia ponad połowy mieszkańców miasta, którzy uważają swoje miejsce zamieszkania za niedobre do życia. Potencjałów miasta upatrywać można w dziedzinie turystyki, rozwoju przedsiębiorczości oraz korzystnej lokalizacji w sieci transportowej. Wskaźniki obrazujące sytuację Przemyśla w ostatnich latach ulegają poprawie, są one jednak gorsze w porównaniu z wynikami dla województwa oraz kraju.

The aim of the thesis was to identify the socio-economic situation of the town of Przemyśl and the factors that influence the development of the town, including its strengths and weaknesses. The author carried out the analysis of various social and economic phenomena and processes as well as the linkages between the town and its surroundings. The important part of the study was a questionnaire survey conducted among the residents of Przemyśl and neighbouring localities. The study has revealed significant weaknesses of the town, which negatively affect its development. The most serious development barriers include unfavourable demographic changes and disadvantageous labour market situation. According to the opinion of the inhabitants of Przemyśl, one of the major problems is poor quality of local authorities. Moreover, more then half of the citizens think that their town is not a good place to live. The city potential can be seen in the field of tourism, entrepreneurship development and the good localization in the transport network. The indicators illustrating Przemyśl’s situation are improving in recent years, but they do not compare favourably with the region (voivodship) and the country.
