Celem artykułu jest zarysowanie teoretycznych źródeł socjologicznego namysłu nad muzyką, wpisującego się w szeroko pojętą problematykę socjologii muzyki. Przedmiotem podjętych w tekście rozważań jest klasyczna myśl socjologiczna takich autorów, jak Herbert Spencer, Georg Simmel, Max Weber oraz Alfred Schütz, którzy w swym naukowym piśmiennictwie poświęcili swą uwagę zagadnieniom z zakresu muzyki i społeczeństwa.
The aim of the paper is to outline the theoretical sources of sociological thought on music that belonging in the field of the broadly defined sociology of music. The subject mater of the article is the legacy of such classics of sociology as Herbert Spencer, Georg Simmel, Max Weber oraz Alfred Schütz, who pondered issues related to music and society in their writtings.
