Aurignacian Culture in the Vistula River basin.

Zasięg występowania artefaktów oryniackich jest ogromny, możemy je znaleźć na wielkim obszarze od zachodniej Francji po Góry Ałtaj. Mimo, że jednostka ta prawdopodobnie wywodzi się z Bliskiego Wschodu, dość szybko zajęła ona obszar niemal całej Europy. Kultura oryniacka pojawiła się około czterdzieści tysięcy lat temu w Europie i zanikła około dwadzieścia tysięcy lat temu. Niestety polskie daty radiowęglowe są bardzo nieliczne i pochodzą z przed dekad. W ostatnich latach jednak powoli udaje się pozyskiwać nowe dane, przy zastosowaniu nowoczesnych technik. W Polsce stanowiska tej kultury znajdują się jednak głównie w południowej części kraju. Tematem tej pracy jest kultura oryniacka w dorzeczu Wisły. Na tym obszarze większość stanowisk grupuje się na Wyżynie Krakowsko-Częstochowskiej i w samym Krakowie. Jednostka ta wykazuje duże zróżnicowanie na tak małym obszarze i jest to zapewne spowodowane funkcją omawianych stanowisk. Praca ta zestawia znane nam współcześnie stanowiska z dorzecza Wisły oraz wskazuje możliwe kierunki przyszłych badań.

The range of Aurignacian artifacts is enormous, we can find them in a large area from western France to The Altai Mountains. Although the unit probably originated in the Middle East, it has occupied the area of almost entire Europe. Aurignacian culture appeared about forty thousand years ago in Europe and disappeared about twenty thousand years ago. Unfortunately, there are few Polish radiocarbon dates and they come from decades ago. In recent years,however, we have been slowly gatheringnew data using modern techniques. In Poland, the sites of this culture are mainly located in the southern part of the country. The subject of this work is the Aurignacian culture in the Vistula River basin. In that area, most of the sites are located on Cracow-Czestochowa Upland and in Cracow itself. This unit shows great diversity in such a small area, and that is probably due to the function of the sites. This work compiles the sites we know from the Vistula River basin which are familiar to us today and indicates possible directions of future research.
