How to narrate the war through characters? The comparison of Nothing, and so be it and Inshallah of Oriana Fallaci

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest odpowiedź na pytanie, jak poprzez postaci oraz w zależności od wybranego gatunku literackiego, Oriana Fallaci konstruuje obraz wojny. W tym celu poddano analizie jej dwa utwory: reportaż z Wietnamu Niente e così sia (Nic i niech tak będzie) oraz osadzoną w Libanie powieść Inszallah. Pracę podzielono na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiono życie i twórczość autorki. Drugi rozdział poświęcono cechom gatunkowym reportażu, krótkiej historii wietnamskiego konfliktu oraz analizie pierwszego z tekstów, natomiast trzeci rozdział poświęcono powieści zarysowując historyczny kontekst opisanej w niej wojny. Pracę zamykają Konkluzje, Bibliografia oraz Aneks zawierający spis i podstawowe informacje na temat postaci występujących w obu utworach.

The aim of this paper is to analyze how, through characters and depending on the literary genre, Oriana Fallaci builds the image of war. The analysis is being done on two of her works: the reportage about the Vietnam, Nothing and so be it, and a novel set in Lebanon, Inshallah. The paper is divided into three chapters. The first one presents the life and pieces written by the author. The second chapter is dedicated to the first book, features of the reportage, the short story of the Vietnam War and the third chapter is dedicated to the novel, outlining also the historical context of the conflict narrated in the book. The thesis ends with Conclusions, a Bibliography and an Annex, that contains the list of and the fundamental information about the characters that appears in both texts.

Lo scopo della presente tesi di laurea è quello di rispondere alla domanda su come, attraverso i personaggi e a seconda del genere letterario scelto, Oriana Fallaci costruisca l'immagine della guerra. A questo scopo sono state analizzate le sue due opere: un reportage dal Vietnam Niente e così sia e il romanzo Insciallah, ambientato in Libano. La tesi è divisa in tre capitoli. Nel primo capitolo è stata presentata la vita e l'opera dell'autrice. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato alle caratteristiche del reportage, una breve storia del conflitto vietnamita e l'analisi del primo dei testi, mentre il terzo capitolo è dedicato al romanzo, delineando il contesto storico della guerra in esso descritta. L'opera si chiude con Conclusioni, Bibliografia e Appendice contenente un elenco e informazioni di base sui personaggi che appaiono in entrambe le opere.
