Swear words as an indispensable element of language. Comparative analysis of the perception of swear words among Spanish-speakers

Ta praca dyplomowa dotyczy bardzo wieloaspektowego elementu języka, jakim jest wulgaryzm, który zazwyczaj postrzegany jest jako symbol agresji werbalnej, złego wychowania czy braku kultury, ale w rzeczywistości jest to zjawisko o wiele bardziej złożone. Praca składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej, o charakterze teoretycznym, wprowadzona jest terminologia związana z wulgaryzmami, ich funkcjami i kontekstami użycia. Ponadto wulgaryzmy są klasyfikowane według ich odniesień, uwzględniając również zjawisko tabu, które jest ściśle związane ze słowami nieprzyzwoitymi. W drugiej części pracy przedstawione są wyniki ankiety na temat postrzegania wulgaryzmów wśród osób hispanojęzycznych, głównie z Hiszpanii i Meksyku.

This bachelor thesis concerns a very multifaceted element of language, which is swear word, usually seen as a symbol of verbal aggression, bad manners or lack of culture, but in fact it is a much more complex phenomenon. The thesis consists of two parts. The first, of a theoretical nature, introduces the terminology related to swear words, their functions and contexts of use. In addition, swear words are classified according to their references, also taking into account the taboo phenomenon, which is closely related to swearing. The second part of the thesis presents the results of a survey about perception of swearing among Spanish-speakers, mainly from Spain and Mexico.

La presente memoria de diplomatura versa sobre un elemento muy polifacético del lenguaje que es la palabra malsonante, que suele ser percibida como un símbolo de agresión verbal, mala educación o falta de cultura, pero en realidad es un fenómeno mucho más complejo. El trabajo consta de dos partes. En la primera, de índole teórica, se introduce la terminología relacionada con las palabrotas, así como se repasan sus funciones y contextos de uso. Además, se clasifican las palabras malsonantes en función de sus referencias, teniendo en cuenta también el fenómeno del tabú, que resulta estrechamente vinculado a las palabrotas. La segunda parte del trabajo presenta los resultados de una encuesta sobre la percepción de las palabrotas entre hispanohablantes provenientes, en su mayoría, de España y México.
