Direct democracy - on the example of ancient Athens and the present day

Pojęcie demokracji jest wszechobecne w obowiązującym dyskursie politycznym. Warto więc dokonać szczegółowej jego analizy i zastanowić się, w którą stronę demokracja jako system zmierza. W poniższym opracowaniu moja uwaga zostanie zwrócona w stronę demokracji bezpośredniej, funkcjonującej jako system polityczny w przeszłości i w ramach obowiązujących instytucji w teraźniejszości. Postaram się odpowiedzieć na pytanie czy rozwój form demokracji bezpośredniej może stanowić szansę na wzrost zaangażowania obywateli w życie polityczne.

The concept of democracy is ubiquitous in the current political discourse. It’s worth to analyze it in details and consider which way democracy as a system is heading. In the following study, my attention will be focused on direct democracy, functioning as a political system in the past and within the framework of existing institutions in the present. I will try to answer the question whether the development of direct democracy may constitute an opportunity to increase the involvement of citizens in political life.
