The subject of this paper is the relationship between the United States and Iran during the governments of Barack Obama and Donald Trump.The work has the following structure: the first chapter presents the theoretical foundations for the analysis of relations, using various paradigms of international relations, such as realism, constructivism, neoclassical realism. The concept of strategic culture is introduced, which combines several theoretical schools and takes into account both the internal factors influencing the shaping of the state's foreign policy and the external political context. The idea of the strategic culture of the USA and Iran was also presented. It is said that there are features in the strategic cultures of these states that directly influence the shaping of the states' political course. It has shown that the United States is known as a country with a strategic culture geared towards global supremacy and messianism, but also shows that Iran has similar goals and needs in its region.The second and third parts present the practical aspect of US-Iranian relations during the administration of B. Obama and D. Trump, respectively, along with the main interests and factors that influence US and Iran policy, for example, the interests of the United States and its allies related to with economic and military security, and Iran's ambitions as the driving force of its policy in the region. In addition, the context of regional rivalry is represented.The research problem of the work is the dynamics of changes in relations between the US and Iran during the last two American administrations and its impact on geopolitical transformations in the Middle East region.The subject of research is political relations between the US and Iran during the administration of B. Obama and D. Trump.The aim of the study is to explain the details of US-Iranian relations through the prism of the paradigms of the theory of international relations, to identify the features of the strategic culture of the United States and Iran, to analyze the influence of internal and external factors on shaping US and Iranian policy, to characterize the US-Iran relations during the administration of B. Obama and D Trump.The study used methods such as the historical comparative method to define the general and characteristic features of US foreign policy towards Iran at various stages of development. Analytical-problem method to divide the problem into a number of narrow topics, each of which is dealt with in chronological order. Functional-structural method to identify the main elements of US-Iran interactions. The method of logical analysis and the method of historical synthesis.The concept of the analysis of relations between states was presented, taking into account the systemic factors in the Middle East, the national interests of the state and its aspirations, as well as internal factors, such as the interests of groups and ideology. Systemic and internal factors influencing the shaping of US and Iranian policy during the rule of B. Obama and D. Trump were analyzed, trends in relations between states at the modern stage and possible directions of development in the future were identified.
