Astma oskrzelowa jest schorzeniem dróg oddechowych, charakteryzująca się szeregiem różnych objawów, które występują na skutek kontaktu z alergenem lub przy dużym wysiłku. Jest chorobą, która wiąże się z zmniejszeniem wydolności oddechowej, poczuciem zagrożenia zdrowia i życia, oraz ograniczeniem aktywności. Jest częstą chorobą wieku dziecięcego. Główne jej objawy to: kaszel, świszczący oddech, duszność oraz uczucie ściskania w klatce piersiowej. W celu postawienia rozpoznania tej choroby wykonuje się szereg badań diagnostycznych, a w szczególności badań czynnościowych. Niepokój rodziców małych pacjentów jest związany z wdrożeniem przewlekłego leczenia oraz obawą utrzymania tego leczenia przez całe życie. Astma może w dużym stopniu ograniczać aktywność fizyczną, ale prawidłowo i systematycznie leczona może te ograniczenia minimalizować. W pediatrii to rodzice dzieci są głównymi odbiorcami wiadomości o stanie zdrowia, ale również dziecku należy taką informację przekazać dostosowując formę informacji do wieku dziecka.

Bronchial asthma is a disorder of the respiratory tract characterised be a variety of different symptoms which occur as a result of contacts with an allergen or during effort. This disease is connected with decreasing respiratory efficiency, a feeling of experiencing threat to life or/and health and a decrease if activity. It is a frequent childhood disease whose symptoms include cough, wheezing breath, breathlessness and a feeling of pressure in the chest . A variety of diagnostic tests , especially the functional tests are performed in order to diagnose asthma.The anxiety of the small patients’ parents is connected with the introduction of a long-term treatment and the fear of the necessity of a life-long treatment. Asthma may significantly reduce physical activity but appropriate and regular treatment may minimalise those limitations. In paediatrics, parents are the main receivers of information about the child’s health condition but the child should also be informed in an appropriate way, well-adapted to the child’s name.
