The problem of existence of Goddess Amaterasu and the rise of the Japanese state

Autorka poprzez analizę historii Japonii od okresu jōmon do kofun, wskaże Kinai jako kolebkę państwowości japońskiej, oraz podkreśli istotną rolę klanów uji w wykształceniu się linii władców Japonii. Na podstawie fragmentów kronik chińskich przedstawiona zostanie postać królowej Himiko i królestwo Yamatai. Problem istnienia bogini Amaterasu wynika ze stosunkowo znikomej obecności bogini w najważniejszych kronikach japońskich Kojiki i Nihongi. Zostaną porównane różne mity, wskazując na dominującą rolę bóstwa Takami-musubi. Udowodnione zostanie, iż Amaterasu została sztucznie wpasowanym bóstwem w mitologię dopiero w VII w., w wyniku działań pojedynczej linii rodowej dążącej do zmonopolizowania tronu.

The author by analyzing the history of Japan from jōmon period to kofun, will show Kinai as a cradle of japanese state and highlight significance of uji clans in the development of a line of Japanese rulers. On the basis of Chinese chronicles there will be presented figure of Queen Himiko and the kingdom of Yamatai. Problem of the existence of Goddess Amaterasu results from relatively insignificant presence of Goddess in the most important japanese chronicles Kojiki and Nihongi. Various myths will be compared indicating the dominant role of the deity Takami-musubi. It will be proven that Amaterasu was artificially fitted in the mythology in the seventh century as a result efforts of a single line of the family aiming to monopolise the throne.
