The philosophy of utopia on the example of the novel by Aldous Huxley

Praca ma na celu przedstawienie filozofii utopii oraz konkretnej egzemplifikacji pióra angielskiego autora, Aldousa Huxleya. Chodzi oczywiście o jego sławną książkę pt. “Nowy wspaniały świat”. W celu lepszego zrozumienia problematyki utopii zostały w pracy uwzględnione trzy utopie pozytywne. Są to “Państwo” Platona, “Utopia” Thomasa Morea oraz ‘Miasto Słońca” Tomasza Campanelli. Platon uważany jest za protoplastę myślenia utopijnego, ale to Thomas More stworzył termin utopia. Dzieło Tomasza Campanelli pozwala lepiej zobrazować różnorodność występującą w literaturze utopijnej. Punkt wyjściowy omawianych autorów jest identyczny: próba stworzenia idealnego ładu społecznego. Jednak efekt końcowy ich rozmyślań jest od siebie wyraźnie różny. Przedstawiona została także krytyka myślenia utopijnego oraz geneza literatury antyutopijnej. Służy to wprowadzeniu do zrozumienia treści i przekazu “Nowego wspaniałego światu”, najsłynniejszej antyutopii XX wieku.

The aim of the work is to present the philosophy of utopia and a concrete exemplification in the novel of the English author, Aldous Huxley. It is, of course, about his famous book entitled "Brave new world". In order to better understand the problem of utopias, three positive utopias were included. They are Plato's "Republic", Thomas More's "Utopia" and Tommaso Campanella's "The City of the Sun". Plato is considered the progenitor of utopian thinking, but it was Thomas More who coined the term utopia. The work of Tommaso Campanella allows us to better illustrate the diversity present in utopian literature. The starting point of the discussed authors is identical: an attempt to create an ideal social order. However, the end result of their thoughts is clearly different from each other. The criticism of utopian thinking and the genesis of anti-utopian literature were also presented. This is to introduce the content and message of "Brave New World", the most famous anti-utopia of the 20th century.
