THE ROLE OF PROPAGANDA IN SHAPING SOCIETIES IN TOTALITARIAN SYSTEMS ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF STALINISM AND NAZISM IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Praca porusza temat propagandy w kontekście działań władz III Rzeszy i Związku Radzieckiego w I połowie XX wieku. Opisany jest w niej również teoretyczny mechanizm propagandy w systemach totalitarnych. Decyzja wyboru pracy spowodowana jest aktualnością zjawiska propagandy politycznej, której obecny kształt i rozumienie naznaczone jest doświadczeniami z przeszłości. Działania propagandowe wymierzone w obywateli XX-wiecznych totalitaryzmów pomogły władzy w osiąganiu politycznych celów. Pierwsza połowa XX wieka była także czasem, w którym ze względu na sytuację międzynarodową i kryzysy polityczno-ekonomiczne, propaganda mogła odnieść tak wielki sukces. Pierwszy rozdział pracy dotyczy teoretycznych aspektów propagandy. Drugi rozdział opisuje nazizm i stalinizm jako rodzaje totalitaryzmu. W trzecim rozdziale scharakteryzowane są konkretne działania i narzędzia propagandy stosowane w opisywanych systemach. Czwarty rozdział jest porównaniem propagandy w obu krajach. Opisany jest w nim także wpływ wydarzeń I połowy XX wieku na rozumienie pojęcia „propaganda”.

The work deals with propaganda in the context of the Third Reich and the Soviet Union authorities’ actions in the first half of the 20th century. It also describes the theoretical mechanism of propaganda in totalitarian systems. The choice of the topic presented in the thesis is due to the current political propaganda phenomenon, the shape and understanding of which is marked by past experience. Propaganda actions aimed at the citizens of the totalitarian regimes in the 20th century helped the authorities achieve political goals. The first half of the 20th century was also the time when, due to the international situation and political and economic crises, propaganda could have been very successful. The first chapter of the thesis deals with the theoretical aspects of propaganda. The second chapter describes Nazism and Stalinism as types of totalitarianism. The third chapter concerns specific actions and propaganda tools used in the described systems. The fourth chapter is a comparison of propaganda in both countries. It also describes the influence of the events of the first half ofthe twentieth century on the understanding of the term "propaganda".
