Apokalipsa w Poezji Brytyjskiego Romantyzmu

Celem niniejszej pracy dyplomowej jest przedstawienie motywu apokalipsy w poezji romantycznej w Wielkiej Brytanii, odnosząc się do twórczości poetów takich, jak Lord Byron, William Blake, Thomas Campbell, Robert Southey, Samuel Taylor Coleridge czy William Wordsworth. Praca ta ma na celu nie tylko analizę wizji apokaliptycznych wyżej wymienionych autorów, ale również udowodnienie, iż były one w dużym stopniu spowodowane wzrostem zainteresowania ochroną środowiska i zagrożeniami, jakie niesie ze sobą rozwój technologii, niestabilną sytuacją polityczną na świecie i ówczesnymi rewolucjami. Ponadto, praca prezentuje nawiązania do Biblii, a także przedstawia motyw ostatniego człowieka na Ziemi.

The purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the portrayal of apocalypse in the Romantic British poetry on the example of selected works written by Lord Byron, William Blake, Thomas Campbell, Robert Southey, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth, and to determine to what extent the poets' apocalyptic visions are attributed to the influence of the environmental consciousness, political instability and religious beliefs. The research shows a huge impact of ecological theories and revolutions on the apocalyptic expectations, demonstrates the references to the Christian eschatology, as well as explores the Last Man motif in the British literature of the Romantic period.
