The importance of animal burials and figurines in the HK6 cemetery in Hierakonpolis.

Niniejsza praca to próba przedstawienia znaczenia zwierząt w Hierakonpolis w okresie Nagada I-III. W tym celu opisałam przykładowe pochówki oraz krzemienne figurki zwierząt znajdujące się na cmentarzysku HK6. Praca ma charakter przeglądowy i opiera się na literaturze dotyczącej omawianego zagadnienia. W analizie szczątków zwierzęcych uwzględniłam 133 zwierzęta domowe, 42 dzikie oraz 3 osobniki, których przynależności nie ustalono. W drugim rozdziale opisałam 11 krzemiennych figurek zoomorficznych. Na tej podstawie przedstawiłam znaczenie zwierząt w życiu doczesnym i pozagrobowym starożytnych Egipcjan. Zwierzęta to przede wszystkim uosobienie chaosu, który człowiek ma za zadanie kontrolować. Groby zwierząt przedstawiają bogactwo i prestiż elity pochowanej na cmentarzu. Mają one również rolę opiekuńczą. Symbolika figurek zwierzęcych jest podobna. Wydaje się, iż artefakty te i pochówki zwierząt nie powinny być interpretowane oddzielnie. Kluczowe dla poszerzenia wiedzy w tym zakresie będą dalsze prace wykopaliskowe na stanowisku HK6.

This work is an attempt to present the importance of animals in Hierakonpolis in the period of Naqada I-III. For this purpose, I described exemplary burials and flint figurines of animals located in the HK6 cemetery. The work is of a review nature and is based on the literature on the issue in question. In the analysis of animal remains, I included 133 domestic animals, 42 wild animals and 3 animals whose affiliation has not been established. In the second chapter, I described 11 zoomorphic flint figures. On this basis, I presented the importance of animals in the temporal and afterlife of the ancient Egyptians. First and foremost, animals are the epitome of chaos that humans have to control. Animal graves show the wealth and prestige of the elite buried in the cemetery. They also have a caring role. The symbolism of animal figures is similar. It seems that these artifacts and animal burials should not be interpreted separately. Further excavation works at the HK6 site will be of key importance for expanding knowledge in this area.
