War crime theme in selected Ukrainian war-themed documentaries in 2022-2023

Praca licencjacka „Motyw zbrodni wojennej w wybranych ukraińskich filmach dokumentalnych o tematyce wojennej w latach 2022 – 2023” ujawnia temat zbrodni wojennych na Ukrainie w 2022 roku. Temat poruszony w tej pracy, w ciągu ostatnich lat coraz częściej dyskutowany wśród światowej opinii publicznej. Celem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest potwierdzenie lub obalenie tezy „Analizowane w pracy ukraińskie filmy dokumentalne wpływają pozytywnie na poczucie patriotyzmu wśród Ukraińców”. Problematyka badań przeprowadzonych w niniejszej pracy polega na tym, że aby zrozumieć, w jaki sposób ukraińskie filmy dokumentalne „Mariupol. Kroniki piekła”, „Bucza 22”, „Rok” wpływają na Ukraińców. Konieczne jest przeanalizowanie filmów wybranych do badań w tym artykule i poznanie reakcji obywateli Ukrainy na te filmy. Pierwszy rozdział niniejszej pracy licencjackiej to część teoretyczna, w którym przedstawiono informacje na temat tego, czym jest film dokumentalny i jaką funkcję pełni. W części teoretycznej przedstawiono również cechy zbrodni wojennej oraz teorię podstaw międzynarodowego prawa humanitarnego. W drugim rozdziale niniejszej pracy przedstawiono wybrane treści z ukraińskich filmów dokumentalnych „Mariupol. Kroniki piekła”, „Bucza 22”, „Rok”, za pomocą których ujawniono szczegóły badanego tematu dotyczącego zbrodni wojennych na Ukrainie w 2022 roku. W trzecim rozdziale, wykorzystując metodę analizy filmów jako materiału źródłowego, metodę analizy treści oraz metodę statystyczną, analizujemy wywiady wybrane z filmów i recenzje filmowe oraz analizujemy reakcje ukraińskiej publiczności na platformie YouTube na filmy badane w niniejszej pracy. Wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w niniejszej pracy licencjackiej, statystyki wyświetleń, polubień i komentarzy obywateli Ukrainy na platformie YouTube wykazały, że ukraińskie filmy dokumentalne „Mariupol. Kroniki piekła”, „Bucza 22”, „Rok” miały pozytywny wpływ na uczucia patriotyczne wielu Ukraińców. Analiza wybranych fragmentów filmów i recenzji do tych filmów dowodzi również, że ukraińskie filmy dokumentalne „Mariupol. Kroniki piekła”, „Bucza 22”, „Rok” wpływają na patriotyzm obywateli Ukrainy. Tym samym praca licencjacka potwierdziła tezę „Analizowane w pracy ukraińskie filmy dokumentalne, wpływają pozytywnie na poczucie patriotyzmu wśród Ukraińców”.

The issue of war crimes in Ukraine in 2022 is examined in the bachelor's thesis, "The theme of war crimes in selected Ukrainian war documentaries in 2022 - 2023". Public discussion of the topic addressed in this thesis has grown over the past few years. Confirming or disproving the claim that "Ukrainian documentaries analyzed in this thesis positively influence the sense of patriotism among Ukrainians" is the goal of this bachelor's thesis. The scope of the research undertaken in this thesis is based on the fact that it aims to understand how the Ukrainian documentaries "Mariupol. Chronicles of Hell", "Bucha 22" and "The Year" affect Ukrainians. It is essential to examine the movies chosen for this paper's research and learn how Ukrainians feel about such films. The first chapter of this bachelor's thesis is the theoretical section, which describes what a documentary film is and what function it serves. The theoretical section also discusses the elements of international humanitarian law theory and what constitutes a war crime. The second chapter of this thesis introduces selected material from the Ukrainian documentaries "Mariupol. Chronicles of Hell", "Bucha 22" and "The Year" which are used to give specifics about the examined issue of war crimes in Ukraine in 2022. In the third chapter, we study interviews selected from the films and film reviews, as well as the reactions of Ukrainian audiences on the YouTube platform, using the method of analyzing films as source material, the method of content analysis, and the statistical method. The findings of the research undertaken in this bachelor thesis, including statistics of views, likes, and comments of Ukrainian nationals on the YouTube platform, revealed that the Ukrainian films "Mariupol. Chronicles of Hell", "Bucha 22" and "The Year" had a positive impact on the patriotic feelings of many Ukrainians. The analysis of selected film excerpts and reviews for these films also proves that the Ukrainian documentaries "Mariupol. Chronicles of Hell", "Bucha 22" and "The Year" influence the patriotism of Ukrainian citizens. As a result, the bachelor's thesis verified the concept that "Ukrainian documentary films analyzed in the thesis positively influence Ukrainians' sense of patriotism".
