About the "Xiqu" reforms during the early PRC era : the dispute about "Hai Rui Dismissed from the Office"

Reformy teatralne związane ze zmianami politycznymi, do których doszło w Chinach po 1949 roku były niezwykle kłopotliwe do przeprowadzenia dla nowej władzy, szczególnie w kwestii teatru tradycyjnego "xiqu". W niniejszym referacie przedstawione zostaną sposoby przekształcania i cenzurowania "xiqu" oraz tworzenia nowych utworów dla tak zwanego teatru wzorcowego - istotnego w kontekście Wielkiej Proletariackiej Rewolucji Kulturalnej (1966 rok). Jako przykład działania cenzury, krytyki, a także samokrytyki samego autora omówiony i przeanalizowany zostanie utwór "Dymisja Hui Rui'a" [海瑞罢官] Wu Hana吴晗 oraz powstały wokół niego spór bezpośrednio poprzedzający wybuch Rewolucji Kulturalnej.

Theatre reforms related to political changes after proclamation of People's Republic of China in 1949 were extremely troublesome for the new regime to conduct. Especially so, in terms of reforming classical "xiqu". This article presents the forms of reforming and censoring "xiqu", as well as the attempts to creating the new pieces of "xiqu" for so-called model theatre - essential part of cultural changes during the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution period. "Hai Rui Dismissed from the Office" by Wu Han is analised as the example of State and press censorship as well as author's own self-critique. The dispute about this "xiqu" drama is crucial as the context for Cultural Revolution in 1966.
