Tłumaczenie jako znak czasu: analiza porównawcza pierwszego i najnowszego tłumaczenia Anne of Green Gables Lucy Maud Montgomery na język polski.

Niniejsza praca ma na celu porównanie dwóch tłumaczeń powieści Lucy Maud Montgomery zatytułowanej Anne of Green Gables. Wybrane tłumaczenia to pierwsze z tłumaczeń tej powieści - praca Rozalii Bernsteinowej z 1911 oraz najnowsze jej tłumaczenie, wydane przez wydawnictwo Marginesy w 2022, autorstwa Anny Bańkowskiej. W części teoretycznej dyskusja skupia się na gatunku literackim, do którego powieść należy, a także na normach translacyjnych przyjętych jako odpowiednie dla tegoż gatunku na przestrzeni lat i jak uległy one zmianie. Omówione zostają także pojęcia tłumaczenia polemicznego i hermeneutyki w przekładzie. W części analitycznej porównane zostają wybory tłumaczeniowe dwóch tłumaczek w zakresie ich podejścia do nazw własnych, elementów kulturowych, tonu i rejestru. Celem tego porównania nie jest wyłonienie, które z tłumaczeń jest lepsze wg. nowoczesnych standardów tłumaczeniowych, a analiza, czy wybory powzięte przez obie tłumaczki były zależne i zgodne z czasami, w których przyszło im tłumaczyć.

The aim of this dissertation is to compare two Polish translations of Anne of Green Gables, a novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The two translations selected are the first Polish translation, a 1911 work of Rozalia Bernsteinowa, and the latest, published by the publishing house Marginesy in 2022, by Anna Bańkowska. The theoretical part focuses on discussing the genre to which the novel belongs, as well as the norms for translating children’s literature over the years and how they have evolved. The term “polemical translation” is introduced, as well as the theory of hermeneutics in translation. In the analytical part, the choices made by both translators regarding proper nouns, cultural elements, tone and register are compared. The purpose of this comparison is not to establish which translator can be considered more successful than the other by modern translation standards. Instead, its goal is to determine whether both of their choices were in line with the translational norms of their respective times.
