French in the EU

Celem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest opis i analiza euro żargonu, tj. języka francuskiego używanego w instytucjach europejskich. Efekt rozwoju instytucji europejskich jest widoczny w procesie tworzenia nowych terminów oraz w użyciach językowych widocznych w prasie francuskiej, w której można zauważyć liczne neologizmy. Pierwsza część jest poświęcona historii UE i polityce wielojęzyczności. Druga część poświęcona jest pozycji j. francuskiego na świecie oraz rozwoju domeny tłumaczenia ustnego i tłumaczenia unijnego.W trzeciej części wyjaśniano znaczenie terminu "eurożargon", a następnie analizowano wybrane fragmenty artykułów z Internetu. Niniejsza analiza ma na celu pokazanie jak rzeczywistość unijna, i tym samym język używany w instytucjach europejskich wzbogaca słownictwo francuskie nie tylko z dziedziny prawnej, ale także wpływa na język prasowy.

This thesis is dedicated to the French language condition in the European Community area, where nowadays is the second most important language after English. What are favoring this relevance are first of all the historical factor (considered that French has been the language of nobleA further its position is first of all the historical factor as historically French was the aristocracy and diplomacy language) and the geographic factor as well (due to the fact that most relevant Community institutions headquarters are located in French-speaking countries).The first part deal with the birth of the EU and the Multilingualism policy, whose aim is to protect the official languages of the EU-Members and prevent any form of discrimination. In this chapter are described the EU's history, thecategorization of meber states' languages and the languages policies of the main European institutions.Multilingualism has led to a remarkable need of translation effort andtothe development of the language interpretation field. Thanks toEUactivitieswere bornterms as a Community Language and Community Translation , which are discussed in the second chapter of this thesis. The influence of the French is very relevant in the language interpretation terminology.The third part is dedicated to the main features of the Community language and to a brief analysis of some articles, in order to show how the EU context enriches French as well. The choice of the topicof this thesis comes from a personal interest towards EU language policy in the fields of translation and interpretation.

L’objectif du présent mémoire de licence consiste à décrire et à analyser le français communautaire, appelé eurojargon. L’effet du développement des institutions européennes est visible dans la création de nouveaux termes et dans les nouveaux usages linguistiques que l’on peut observer dans la presse française, tels que la présence des néologismes et le changement de signification de certains mots.La première partie est dédiée à l’historie de la création de l’Union européenne à partir de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Dans cette partie nous allons expliquer le terme multilinguisme et son application dans le conteste communautaire. Dans le deuxième chapitre nous nous concentrons premièrement sur la position du français sur la scène internationale.Dans le troisième chapitre nous avons mentionné la notion d’eurojargon et nous voulons analyser des articles d’Internet. Cet analyse a pour but de montrer comment le langage communautaire et les institutions enrichissent aussi le vocabulaire français non seulement de nature juridique mais aussi le langage commun et celui de la presse.
