Two monuments in one : the mystery of the Lenin sculpture in front of the metallurgical plant in Nowa Huta

W Nowej Hucie stały dwa pomniki Włodzimierza Ilicza Lenina. W odległości około dwóch i pół kilometra od zlokalizowanego przy alei Róż pomnika autorstwa Mariana Koniecznego, przed bramą główną Huty im. Lenina, wyeksponowany był mniej okazały i mniej znany pomnik wodza rewolucji październikowej. Prowadząc Przeprowadzając kwerendę okazało się, że informacje na jego temat zawarte w najnowszych opracowaniach są prawdopodobnie błędne. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest próba wykazania, że rzeczywiście doszło przekłamania, że dane na temat pomnika Włodzimierza Lenina stojącego przed bramą główną kombinatu, które przedstawiane są w naukowych i popularnych publikacjach z ostatnich dwóch dekad, są niezgodne ze stanem faktycznym, a co więcej, dotyczą innego pomnika. Postawiono także pytania badawcze: jaka jest rzeczywista historia pomnika sprzed kombinatu w Nowej Hucie, z jakim dokładnie monumentem go pomylono i w jaki sposób doszło do tej pomyłki? Dzięki zrealizowanym badaniom w postaci analizy materiałów zastanych i wywiadów z mieszkańcami Nowej Huty i byłymi pracownikami kombinatu udało się obronić postawioną tezę, jednakże nie uzyskano pełnej odpowiedzi na postawione pytania.

There were two monuments to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin in Nowa Huta. About two and a half kilometres from the monument by Marian Konieczny located on Rose (Róż) Avenue, in front of the main gate of the Lenin Steelworks, there was a less impressive and less known monument to the leader of the October Revolution. During the search, it turned out that the information about him contained in the latest studies was probably incorrect.The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that there has indeed been a misrepresentation, that the information about the monument to Vladimir Lenin standing in front of the main gate of the industrial complex, which has been presented in scientifi c and popular publications over the last two decades, is inconsistent with the facts and, what is more, refers to a diff erent monument. The following research questions were also posed: what is the real history of the monument in front of the combine in Nowa Huta, which monument exactly was it confused with, and how did this mistake come about? Thanks to the research carried out in the form of an analysis of existing materials and interviews with residents of Nowa Huta and former employees of the combine, it was possible to defend the thesis, but a full answer to the questions posed was not obtained.
