Echoes of press releases of Zbigniew Święch's triptych "The curses, microbes and scholars" in the years 1985-1996

Praca poświęcona jest tryptykowi pt. "Klątwy, mikroby i uczeni" autorstwa Zbigniewa Święcha, który stanowią: Tom 1. Opowieść wawelska. W ciszy otwieranych grobów, Tom 2. Wileńska klątwa Jagiellończyka oraz Tom 3. Ostatni krzyżowiec Europy. Oddychający sarkofag Warneńczyka? Zagadnienia ogólne obejmują biografię autora ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem cyklu oraz przedstawienie treści poszczególnych tomów. Badania autorskie przedstawiają echa prasowe tryptyku w latach 1985-1996, uszeregowane chronologicznie w ramach poszczególnych tomów. Celem pracy jest określenie jak duże było zainteresowanie książkami Święcha, czy były one popularne i chętnie czytane w Polsce, jakie posiadały recenzje, a także jak oceniano sposób autora na popularyzację nauki historycznej. Wyniki badań wykazują, że cały tryptyk był wydawniczym hitem, często go recenzowano, chętnie przeprowadzano wywiady z autorem, a po autografy ustawiały się długie kolejki. Przyczyną jest przede wszystkim atrakcyjny temat książek, sposób jego przedstawienia, jak również wykorzystanie motywu "klątwy", który napędza całą historię i przyciąga uwagę.

The work is dedicated to triptych entitled "Klątwy, mikroby i uczeni" by Zbigniew Święch, which include: Volume 1. Opowieść wawelska. W ciszy otwieranych grobów, Volume 2. Wileńska klątwa Jagiellończyka and Volume 3. Ostatni krzyżowiec Europy. Oddychający sarkofag Warneńczyka? General issues include a biography of the author with particular emphasis on the book series and present the contents of each volume. The research shows echoes of the press releases of a triptych in the years 1985-1996, listed chronologically within individual volumes. The aim of the study is to determine how big the interest in Święch's books was, whether they were popular and widely read in Poland, what reviews they had, as well as how people evaluated the author's way to popularize the history. The research results shows that the triptych was a often reviewed bestseller, author participated in a lot of interviews and people stood in long queues for autographs. The cause of this is primarily attractive topic of the books, the way it was presented, as well as the use of the theme "curse" that drives the whole story and attracts attention.
