Zygmunt Krasinski’s romantic initiations in light of the Geneva epistolography

W niniejszej pracy podejmuję tematykę inicjacji romantycznych Zygmunta Krasińskiego. Bazą dla moich rozważań jest bogaty zbiór korespondencji powadzonej z przyjacielem – Henrykiem Reeve’em oraz z ojcem – Wincentym Krasińskim. Głównym materiałem źródłowym są listy z okresu genewskiego. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest doświadczeniu przyjaźni. Próbuję w nim odpowiedzieć na pytanie czy zapisana na kartach listów znajomość z Reeve’em to przyjaźń, anglomania czy kreacja własnej biografii oraz zaznaczam obszerny krąg zainteresowań romantyków. Kolejna część pracy dotyczy inicjacji miłości, znaczenia wyobraźni w sposobie postrzegania obiektu westchnień, sposobów prezentacji ukochanej. Poruszam również temat romansu z Henriettą Willan, uczucia jako czynnika wyzwalającego energię twórczą. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest zagadnieniu patriotyzmu. Ukazuje ewolucję poglądów Zygmunta Krasińskiego na Powstanie Listopadowe. W oparciu o epistolografię próbuję rozwikłać zagadkę: Wincenty Krasiński - troskliwy ojciec czy despota? W tym fragmencie pracy podejmuję się próby odnalezienia skutków ojcowskich nacisków w twórczości Zygmunta Krasińskiego. Ostatni rozdział odnosi się do inicjacji intelektualnych i estetycznych, do których należą podróże, spotkania oraz lektury romantyka.

Zygmunt Krasiński’s romantic initiations are main theme of this Master’s dissertation. The starting point for further deliberations is a rich collection of correspondence between Krasiński and his friend – Henry Reeve; and between author and his father – Wincenty Krasiński. Letters of the Geneva period are the major source of material. The first chapter deals with the notion of friendship – I try to explain whether the relationship between Krasiński and Reeve might be categorized as a close friendship, anglomanie (immense enthusiasm for anything connected with the English culture), or creation of own biography. The next part of the dissertation concerns the notion of love, the importance of imagination in the perception and presentation of a bellowed person. I also touch upon the subject of Krasiński’s romance with Henrietta Willan – with this background I present love as a factor releasing creative energy. Patriotism is the cardinal theme of the third chapter; it presents the evolution of Krasiński views on the November Uprising. On the basis of the correspondence I attempt to determine whether Krasiński was a caring father or an autocrat – I trace father’s influence on Zygmunt Krasiński’s works. The last chapter concerns intellectual and aesthetic experiences such as travels, meetings and book of the romantic.
