Austria's war with France and Piedmont in 1859 from the perspective of the cracovian "Czas"

Poniższa praca opisuje relację krakowskiego "Czasu" z wojny Francji i Królestwa Sardynii z Austrią z 1859 roku. Celem pracy była ocena rzetelności i prawdziwości podawanych przez"Czas" informacji, a także prezentowanego przez "Czas" poziomu dziennikarstwa. Poza relacją dziennika z wojny i wydarzeń politycznych opisane zostały również wydarzenia z XIX wieku prowadzące do wybuchu wojny oraz działalność "Czasu" w okresie 1848-1859. Konfrontacja treści gazety z opracowaniami dotyczącymi historii wojny wskazała na stosunkowo rzetelny i zgodny z rzeczywistością opis wydarzeń przez "Czas". Pomimo pewnych nieścisłości, relacja dziennika była stosunkowo obiektywna i oparta na szerokim gronie korespondentów oraz prasie z wielu krajów europejskich, w tym również wrogich Austrii.

The following work describes the account of the Kraków-based "Czas" from the 1859 war between France and the Kingdom of Sardinia and Austria. The aim of the study was to assess the reliability and truthfulness of the information provided by "Czas", as well as the level of journalism presented by "Czas". In addition to the newspaper's account of the war and political events, the events of the 19th century leading to the outbreak of war and the history of "Czas" in the period 1848-1859 were also described.Confrontation of the newspaper's content with studies on the history of the war indicated a relatively reliable and true-to-life description of the events by "Czas". Despite some inaccuracies, the newspaper's report was relatively objective and based on a wide group of correspondents and press from many European countries, including those hostile to Austria.
