POSTAĆ OJCA W POEZJI SYLVII PLATH I TONY’EGO HARRISONA

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest postać ojca ukazana w poezji Sylvii Plath i Tony’ego Harrisona. Ze względu na istotę tematu poruszanego przez poetów, autorka skupia się na wnioskach wynikających z analizy i interpretacji poezji, nie odrzucając jednak informacji biograficznych. Pierwszą część autorka poświęca na krótki opis życia i kariery Plath i Harrisona w kolejności chronologicznej, zwracając szczególną uwagę na ich relacje z ojcem. Kolejna część to próba opisania postaci ojca na przykładzie utworu „Daddy” Sylvii Plath i trzech wierszy Tony’ego Harrisona: „Bookends I, II” i „Long Distance II”. W podsumowaniu zawarte jest porównanie postaci ojca, relacji pomiędzy poetą i ojcem, a także metod, które posłużyły do ich opisania.

The author describes the depiction of father figures in selected poems by Sylvia Plath and Tony Harrison. A personal nature of the theme of father figure as present in both poets’ works justifies a reading that focuses on inferences arising from the poems without rejecting the biographical information. The first part consists of a short presentation of each poet’s life and career, in chronological order. Apart from the poets, this presentation concentrates on their relationship with fathers. The second part is devoted to analysis and interpretation of the chosen poems: Sylvia Plath’s “Daddy” and Tony Harrison’s “Bookends I, II” and “Long Distance II”. The author concludes her thesis with a juxtaposition of the two father figures, the relationships with their children and the literary methods that served to describe them.
