This dissertation is focused on a question of the contemporary phenomenon: crisis of death. It concerns the special case of the dead people representation which is a Victorian post mortem photography. A context of this work mainly consist two major subjects which are: the Sigmund Freud's psychology theory of mourning and melancholia and contemporary thanatological reflection, formed on the field of French anthropology, here represented by the following thinkers: Philippe Ariès, Louis-Vincent Thomas, Roland Barthes.
Niniejsza rozprawa ma za zadanie zmierzyć się z pytaniem o przyczyny współczesnego zjawiska, jakim jest kryzys śmierci. Dotyczy ona szczególnego przypadku przedstawiania umarłych, jakim jest wiktoriańska fotografia post mortem. Kontekst dla pracy stanowią: teoria żałoby i melancholii Zygmunta Freuda oraz współczesna myśl tanatologiczna, kształtująca się na gruncie francuskiej antropologii, która tu reprezentują następujący myśliciele: Philippe Ariès, Louis-Vincent Thomas, Roland Barthes.
