The report presents an overview of the situation of people employed and seeking employment based on the results of a study of people of working age conducted in the 2nd quarter of 2011. What you will find in the report is an image of Poles’ occupational activity by various profi les, including division by sex and age, features which have been assigned, yet determine people’s situation in the labour market. Occupational activity will be analysed on the basis of the form of contracts with employers, including informal employment agreements. Additionally, the profiles of ISCO sub-major occupational groups have been presented. Dependencies between the groups and earnings on the one hand and education on the other, paint an interesting picture. When it comes to job satisfaction and expectations regarding career development, the youngest age group in the labour market are drawn attention to. The disparity between employment structure of the employed and the structure of professions preferred by the unemployed is rather striking, as it illustrates a structural nature of unemployment, especially with regard to people with lower level of education. The report covers also information on higher education institutions graduates in the labour market, as they are a group whose situation in the labour market has been growing worse for the past few years. This part of the report is an introduction to a wider, problem-oriented presentation of education-related issues discussed in the report entitled Competencies as the key to the development of Poland.
