The Operation "Vistula" in the municipalities of Komańcza, Cisna and Baligród

Akcja ,,Wisła” od wielu lat wzbudza emocje i zainteresowanie. Głównym celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie wydarzeń związanych z wysiedleniem ludności ukraińskiej przeprowadzonych podczas Akcji ,,Wisła” na terenie gmin Komańcza, Cisna oraz Baligród w 1947 roku. W pracy autor scharakteryzował ludność zamieszkującą tereny tych gmin. Pokazuje również wydarzenia towarzyszące wcześniejszej akcji wysiedleńczej w latach 1944-1946 oraz antypolską działalność Ukraińskiej Powstańczej Armii w latach II wojny światowej na wyróżnionych terenach. W dalszej części pracy została opisana struktura Organizacji Ukraińskich Nacjonalistów i Ukraińskiej Powstańczej Armii ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem oddziałów działających na terenie Bieszczadów i Beskidu Niskiego. Kolejny rozdział zawiera opis przebiegu Akcji ,,Wisła” wraz z dokładnymi danymi dotyczącymi miejscowości i liczby wysiedlonych z nich osób. Omówione są również działania zbrojne prowadzone przez jednostki polskich oddziałów zbrojnych zwalczających UPA. W ostatnim rozdziale pracy zostały przedstawione relacje świadków wydarzeń rozgrywających się w czasie II wojny światowej w Cisnej i Baligrodzie. Autor przytoczył także opinie historyków wypowiadających się w reportażach dostępnych w serwisie YouTube. Niniejsza praca jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie czy możliwe było inne, nie tak brutalne jak masowe wysiedlenia ludności ukraińskiej, rozwiązanie problemu działalności partyzantki UPA na terenie Bieszczad i Beskidu Niskiego.

The Operation “Vistula“ has been arousing emotions and interest for many years. The main target of the study is to present the events related to the displacement of the Ukrainian population carried out during the Operation "Vistula" in the municipalities of Komańcza, Cisna and Baligród in 1947. In the work, the author describes the population living in the areas of these communes. He also explains the events during the deportation action in the years 1944-1946 and the anti-Polish activity of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army during World War II in the selected areas. In the further part of the work is presented the structure of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, with particular emphasis on the units operating in the Bieszczady Mountains and the Beskid Niski. The next chapter contains a description of the Operation “Vistula“ course along with particular information about the towns and the number of people displaced from them. Furthermore, military operations carried out by Polish armed units fighting the UPA are discussed. The last chapter of the work presents the witnesses’ testimonies of the events taking place during World War II in Cisna and Baligród. The author also quotes the opinions of historians speaking in reportages available on YouTube. This work is an attempt to answer the question whether it was possible to solve the problem of the UPA guerillas in the Bieszczady Mountains and the Beskid Niski, not as brutally as mass displacements of the Ukrainian population had been.
