The role of the tsars' wives in nineteenth-century Russia based on the example of Alexandra Feodorovna (Alice of Hesse)

Niniejsza praca ukazuje rolę żon carskich na rosyjskim dworze w XIX w. Składa się ona z trzech rozdziałów. Każdy z nich opisuje inną część obowiązków cesarzowej. Pierwszy poświęcony został zadaniom cesarzowej w rodzinie carskiej. Drugi opisuje reprezentacyjną rolę carycy. Trzeci prezentuje polityczne możliwości carskiej małżonki. Każdy rozdział przedstawia dwie bardzo ważne kwestie. Po pierwsze, ukazuje zadania typowej dziewiętnastowiecznej carycy, zaś po drugie, bada działania Aleksandry Fiodorowny (ostatniej rosyjskiej carycy, żony Mikołaja II) oraz ich efekty. Aleksandra Fiodorowna jest doskonale znaną rosyjską cesarzową, dlatego też możemy dokładnie przeanalizować jej osobowość i zachowanie oraz konsekwencje jej błędów.

This thesis shows the role of the tsars’ wives at the Russian court in the nineteenth century. It consists of three chapters. Each of them describes another part of the tsarina’s duties. The first chapter is dedicated to the empress’s tasks in the family. The second chapter describes the tsarina’s representative role. The third chapter presents political opportunities of the tsar’s wife. Each chapter shows two very important issues. Firstly, chapters show duties of the typical tsarina and secondly, acts of Alexandra Feodorovna (the last Russian tsarina and spouse of Nicholas II) and their effects. Alexandra Feodorovna is well-known Russian empress, therefore we can analyse her personality, her behaviour and consequences of her mistakes.
