Convergence of legal and ethical systems on the example of ancient Greece and Rome

W niniejszej pracy stawiam tezę, że można zaobserwować w historii konwergencję sposobów rozstrzygania problemów prawnych oraz sposobów formułowania teorii etycznych. Za przykład służy mi prawo starożytnej Grecji, jak i etyka Platona oraz Arystotelesa, a także prawo rzymskie i etyka stoicka. Omawianą konwergencję wyjaśniam bezpośrednim wpływem prawa rzymskiego na etykę stoicką, a w przypadku filozofii greckiej okresu klasycznego - czynnikiem trzecim, jakim były wielkość i spójność społeczeństwa w greckiej polis.

In this paper I put forward the thesis that one can observe in history the convergence of ways of resolving legal problems and ways of formulating ethical theories. As an example, I take the law of ancient Greece and the ethics of Plato and Aristotle, as well as Roman law and stoic ethics. I explain this convergence with the direct influence of Roman law on stoic ethics, and in the case of Greek philosophy of the classical period - the third factor, which was the size and cohesion of society in Greek polis.
