Psychologia głębi odnosi się do dziedziny psychologii, w której utrzymuje się istnienie nieświadomości w umyśle człowieka. Praca zajmuje się odniesieniem psychoanalitycznych teorii Carla Gustava Junga do analizy In the House in the Dark of the Woods, autorstwa Lairda Hunta. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawione są definicje archetypu oraz procesu indywiduacji. W celu lepszego zobrazowania jak powinna przebiegać analiza, przedstawiona została metodologia Junga. Za wzór posłużyła jedna z wielu interpretacji snów jakie przeprowadził i udokumentował. Rozdział drugi skupia się na analizie zachowania czterech głównych bohaterek poprzez zastosowanie teorii Junga. Ponadto, przedstawiono koncepcję jakoby powieść Hunta była metaforą dla integralności człowieka, jednego z najważniejszych założeń Junga. Należy zaznaczyć, że symbole pojawiające się w nieświadomości są z natury niejednoznaczne, z tego powodu opisane wyniki analizy ograniczają się do najbardziej prawdopodobnej interpretacji.

The term depth psychology defines a branch of psychology that maintains the existence of the unconscious in an individual’s mind. In this work, such psychoanalytical theories of Carl Gustav Jung are applied to analyse Laird Hunt’s novel In the House in the Dark of the Woods. The first chapter presents Jung’s definition of an archetype and the individuation process. For the purpose of analysing Laird Hunt’s novel, the chapter contains a detailed account of how one of the dreams were analysed by Jung himself to set an example for further research. In the second chapter focus lies on analyses of four main protagonists of the book in accordance with Jung’s philosophy. Furthermore, the idea that the novel functions as a metaphor of wholeness, i.e., Jung’s primary objective, is discussed. It is vital to note that symbols of the unconscious are innately ambiguous, and for this reason the findings were limited to the most plausible reading.
