Slavic demonology.

The theme of this paper is demonology in beliefs of ancient Slavs. Its purpose is to gather information from various scientific sources about slavic ideas of beings from supernatural world.The work is divided into four chapters; each of them describes another group of demons, their behavior and appearance in the ideas, superstitions and rituals of the population associated with them. The chapters make a kind of classification of described demons into groups; first speaks about creatures of aquatic environment, like aquarius. The next one describes demons and spirits of nature: forests and fields, mostly speaks about goddesses, undines; a separate part is devoted to a demon named poludnica. The third chapter talks about home demons. It’s important because of many traditions and superstitions related with this type of demons and durability of those beliefs. The last chapter of the paper speaks about half-demonic creatures of the night, like vampires, witches and nightmares; contains a description of the images of these creatures in people’s minds and describes many ways to defend and fight with them.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest demonologia w wierzeniach dawnych Słowian. Jej celem jest zgromadzenie informacji z różnych źródeł naukowych na temat słowiańskich wyobrażeń istot ze świata ponadnaturalnego.Praca została podzielona na cztery rozdziały; każdy z nich opisuje inną grupę demonów, ich zachowania i wygląd w wyobrażeniach oraz przesądy i obrzędy ludności z nimi związane. Rozdziały tworzą pewien rodzaj klasyfikacji opisywanych demonów na grupy; pierwszy mówi o istotach środowiska wodnego, takich jak wodniki. Kolejny opisuje demony i duchy związane z przyrodą: lasami i polami, głownie opisuje on boginki, rusałki; osobny fragment poświęcony jest demonowi o nazwie południca. Trzeci rozdział opowiada o demonach domowych. Jest on istotny z uwagi na bardzo liczne przesłanki, tradycje i przesądy z tym typem demonów związane, oraz trwałość tych wierzeń. Ostatni rozdział pracy traktuje o nocnych istotach półdemonicznych, takich jak wampiry, wiedźmy, zmory i upiory; zawiera opis wyobrażeń o tych stworzeniach oraz licznych sposobach obrony oraz walki z nimi.
