Different methods of activating a reader in Ajol and Laor by Stanisław Czycz and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace

Praca jest porównaniem metod, za pomocą których Stanisław Czycz oraz David Foster Wallace umożliwiali w swoich tekstach aktywizację i zaangażowanie czytelnika. Praca na podstawie utworów Ajol i Laor oraz Krótkie wywiady z paskudnymi ludźmi bada warunki działań, w wyniku których czytelnik staje się pełnoprawnych współtwórcą tekstu, i stara się wykazać, w jaki sposób w takich sytuacjach modyfikacji ulegają klasyczne kategorie, takie jak: tekst, język i autor. Kluczowymi pojęciami, odnoszącymi się do wspomnianych czynności i przewartościowań są: detaksa, czyli zaburzenie ciągłości tekstowej, oraz „białe znaki”, oznaczające braki w materii tekstu oraz milczenie, związane z takimi zdarzeniami tekstowymi na poziomie składniowym i kompozycyjnym jak: aposjopeza, elipsa, jukstapozycja czy uskok składniowy. Praca wychodzi z założenia, że zamiary twórcy są tak samo ważne, jak inwencja odbiorcy, i oba te czynniki, znajdując się ze sobą w relacji dialogicznej, oddziałując na siebie nawzajem, prowadzą do wytworzenia tekstu.Innym naczelnym zadaniem pracy jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób lektura staje się doświadczeniem, co wiąże się z próbą ujęcia jej w kategoriach performatywności. Takie ujęcie oświetlane jest w niej koncepcjami Jacquesa Derridy dotyczącymi tekstu i lektury, a także teatru.

The work is a comparison of methods by which Stanisław Czycz and David Foster Wallace enabled reader's activation and involvement in their texts. The work based on books Ajol and Laor and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men examines the conditions of activities, as a result of which the reader becomes a co-author of the text, and tries to show how classical categories, such as text, language and author, get modified in such situations. The key concepts, referring to the mentioned activities and reappraisals, are: detax, meaning the disruption of text’s continuity, and "white signs", meaning deficiencies in the text’s structure and silence, which are related to such text events on the syntactic and compositional levels as: aposiopesis, ellipse or a jukstaposition. Assumption of the work is that the intentions of the creator are as important as the invention of the recipient, and both of these factors, being in a dialogical relationship, interact with each other and lead to the creation of the text.Another primary aim of the work is to show how the reading becomes an experience, which connects with an attempt to capture it in terms of performativity. This approach is showed in a light of ideas of Jacques Derrida regarding text and reading, as well as theater.
