Chinese silk – the terminology of silk and its cultural and historical contexts

Niniejsza praca stanowi vademecum wprowadzające w tematykę jedwabiu chińskiego i przemysłu jedwabnego opracowane w formie słownikowej. Rozdział pierwszy zawiera informacje dotyczące jedwabiu chińskiego w kontekście kulturowo-historycznym oraz szczegółowy opis standardowego procesu obróbki jedwabiu począwszy od gąsienicy jedwabnika, aż po gotową tkaninę. W rozdziale drugim przedstawiono metodologię zastosowaną do zebrania materiału językowego i utworzenia leksykonu pojęć. Rozdział trzeci dotyczy teorii leksykograficznej, morfologii języka chińskiego, specyfiki idiomów chińskich oraz struktury opracowanego leksykonu pojęć. Ostatni rozdział zawiera leksykon pojęć związanych z jedwabiem chińskim podzielonych na cztery kategorie tematyczne oraz dwa indeksy alfabetyczne obejmujące całość słownictwa. W pracy zaprezentowano różnorodność chińskiej terminologii jedwabniczej, problematykę i zjawiska związane z przekładem terminów z języka chińskiego na język polski.

This paper is intended as a handbook introducing the subject matter of the Chinese silk and silk industry, mainly presented in the form of a dictionary. The first chapter contains information about Chinese silk in a cultural and historical context, and a detailed description of the standard silk manufacturing process – from silkworm caterpillar to finished fabric. The second chapter provides insight into the methodology used to gather the linguistic material and to create the dictionary. The third chapter focuses on the theory of lexicography, Chinese morphology, the properties of chengyu, and the structure of the compiled dictionary. The last chapter includes the dictionary divided into thematic categories, as well as two alphabetical indexes which cover all entries listed in the dictionary. This paper also discusses the diversity and multiplicity of the terminology of Chinese silk, and linguistic phenomena related to the translation of certain terms from Chinese to Polish.
