Problems of integration of Muslims in Western Europe (France, Germany and United Kingdom)

Islam jest obecnie najszybciej rozwijającą się religią współczesnego świata, a muzułmanie stanowią dziś drugą co do wielkości grupę religijną Zachodniej Europy. Szacuje się, że ich liczba w zachodniej części kontynentu europejskiego wynosi nieco ponad 17 milionów osób, co stanowi około 5% tamtejszej populacji. Po raz pierwszy na szeroką skalę muzułmanie pojawili się w Europie Zachodniej po II wojnie światowej. W obliczu rozwoju gospodarczego, pod koniec lat 60. z krajami muzułmańskimi zostały podpisane umowy o przepływie pracowników. Początkowo wydawało się, że przybywający do Europy, samotni mężczyźni będą stanowić tylko tymczasową i brakującą wówczas siłę roboczą. Okazało się jednak, że po kilku latach, kiedy umowy zaczęły wygasać, pracownicy nie tylko zostali, ale dodatkowo ściągnęli na kontynent europejski swoje żony z kilkorgiem dzieci. Powstało w ten sposób nowe pokolenie muzułmanów urodzonych już na kontynencie europejskim, tak zwanych muzułmanów-obywateli. Praca podejmuje problematykę ich obecności w Europie Zachodniej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem trzech państw: Francji, Niemiec i Wielkiej Brytanii. W zamyśle charakteryzuje muzułmanów pod kątem ekonomicznym, społecznym i polityczno-prawnym. Przybliża historię ich powojennej migracji z uwzględnieniem liczby, pochodzenia i rozmieszczenia w Europie. Oprócz tego ważną kwestią w niej poruszoną jest zaprezentowanie przyjmowanych przez państwa modeli integracji ze społecznością muzułmanów. Praca przybliża problem komunikacji pomiędzy społeczeństwem państwa przyjmującego a mniejszością muzułmańską, stara się określić status prawny islamu w Europie. Próbuje udzielić również odpowiedzi na pytanie o podłoża konfliktu pomiędzy światem Zachodu a światem islamu. Szuka źródeł negatywnych postaw muzułmanów wobec obywateli Europy. Zwraca uwagę na proces kształtowania się i zmiany tożsamości muzułmanów. Dokonuje wreszcie przeglądu możliwych scenariuszy relacji muzułmańsko-zachodnich i usiłuje znaleźć najlepsze rozwiązanie.

Islam is now the fastest growing religion in the world, and Muslims are now the second largest religious group in Western Europe. Today there are more than seventeen millions Muslim living in the major countries of the European Union which represents about 5% of the local population.
