Postfeminist Identities in American Series

Celem tej pracy jest omówienie seriali „Seks w wielkim mieście”, „Opowieść podręcznej”, „Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, „Gambit królowej” i „Emily w Paryżu” i analiza treści w nich zawartych. Badania mają wykazać, czy danym serialom bliżej jest do feminizmu (w szczególności jego trzeciej fali), czy może opierają się one na tożsamościach postfeministycznych, takich jak: latte-feminizm, pop-feminizm i girl power. W rozdziale pierwszym skupiłam się na zagadnieniach teoretycznych związanych z feminizmem (pojęcie feminizmu, trzy fale feminizmu, a także jego odmiany) oraz postfeminizmem i tożsamościami postfeministycznymi. Dzięki temu w dalszej części pracy wiedziałam, na co należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę podczas omawiania i analizy wybranych seriali. W drugiej części swojej pracy krótko opisałam kwestie związane z serialami (szczególnie tymi, których głównymi bohaterkami są kobiety), przytoczyłam pojęcie serialu postfeministycznego, a następnie przeszłam do streszczenia fabuły poszczególnych seriali; charakterystyki bohaterek i omówienia wybranych fragmentów. W trzecim rozdziale, na podstawie teorii z rozdziału pierwszego, dokonałam analizy seriali pod względem wyglądu głównych bohaterek, podejścia do tematów związanych z seksualnością, omówiłam także styl życia i podejście bohaterek do małżeństwa i macierzyństwa i opisałam kwestie takie jak zawód, wykształcenie, klasa i status materialny tych kobiet, by wykryć i wykazać tożsamości postfeministyczne w tych tekstach kultury. Następnie starałam się zbadać, które spośród trzech tożsamości są charakterystyczne dla konkretnego tytułu.

The purpose of this thesis is to elaborate on the series: „Sex and the City”, „The Handmaid’s Tale”, „Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, „The Queen's Gambit”, and „Emily in Paris” and analyze their content. The research aims to reveal whether the series are closer to feminism (particularly its third wave) or whether they are based on post-feminist identities such as latte-feminism, pop-feminism and girl power. In chapter one, I focused on theoretical issues related to feminism (the concept of feminism, the three waves of feminism and its variations) and postfeminism and postfeminist identities. As a result, in the later part of my work, I knew what to pay special attention to when discussing and analyzing the selected series. In the second part of my work, I briefly described the issues related to the series (especially those with female protagonists), cited the concept of postfeminist series, and then proceeded to summarize the plot of each series; characterize the female characters and elaborate on selected parts of their storylines. In the third chapter, based on the theories in chapter one, I analyzed the series in terms of the appearance of the main female characters, the approach to themes of sexuality, I also discussed the lifestyle and approach of the female characters to marriage and motherhood and described issues such as the occupation, education, class and material status of these women to detect and demonstrate postfeminist identities in these cultural texts. I then sought to explore which of the three identities are specific to a particular title.
